Here we continue with the next step: installing Motorola Phone Tools. Two versions of this software were tried, both gave similar results, these were:

Motorola Phone Tools deluxe version 3.11     and,

   Motorola Phone Tools version 4.33.a

(which upgraded itself to version 4.34)

We decided to stick with using verion 4.34. Many versions of this application can be found at various locations on the internet.

Once this program is installed, be sure the phone is not connected to the USB cable then, reboot the machine.

When the computer is finished rebooting, start up the Motorola Phone Tools program. Hit the OK button, to accept the default settings. A window pops up labeled:

Welcome to the Phone Setup Wizard

With the given choices:

   •  Cable
   •  Bluetooh
   •  Infrared

Select " •  Cable".

Then hit Next, to go to the "Phone Setup " window.

Turn on the phone, and connect it to the USB cable, and let the program detect and connect to the phone. If all has gone well then we should be able to access the phone's directories, and files.

To transfer files between the phone and the PC click on:

Multimedia Studio >>>   File Transfer Studio

Then wait for the phone's directories, and files to appear.

If the phone fails to connect, then we may need to reset the phone's drivers. The following may or may not happen as described here, it will depend on how your system is ccurrently configured.

Regardless, here is the procedure to reset the phone's drivers:

Turn off the Motorola Phone Tools program.

Disconnect the phone.

On the windows desktop click:

   Start  >>  Settings  >> Control Panel  >>
      Phone and Modem Options icon
 >> Modems (tab)

If a Motorola modem is present, then delete it. Then turn on the phone and reconnect it to the cable. We get a window that pops up:

Welcome to the Found New Hardware Wizard

Choose:    •  Install the Software automatically (Recommended)

If a window pops up that says:

exclamation point icon   The Software you are installing for this hardware:

               Motorola USB Modem

has not passed ... etc ...

Choose:

               Continue Anyway

and then,

               Finish

Disconnect the phone.

Start the Motorola Phone Tools program.

Hit  OK  to accept the default profile.

Then hit Redetect.

We should see the following window pop up:

Welcome to the Phone Setup Wizard

with the given choices:

   •  Cable
   •  Bluetooh
   •  Infrared

select " •  Cable",

hit " Next".

We should see the following window called:

       Phone Setup

then turn on the phone and connect it to the USB cable.

Wait for the program to detect the phone.

If all has gone well then we should be able to access the phone's directories, and files; click on:

Multimedia Studio >>>   File Transfer Studio

Then wait for the phone's directories, and files to appear.

The next page gives a short description for adding sound files to the phone.
